When will Wall-E, the movie, become a reality? Where we will have to leave Earth because it is so uninhabitable, due to heat and pollution, and live on a spaceship far away and sit in hover chairs leaving Earth to die. A lot of people feel that climate change is a distant problem that will not happen until generations from now. However, the effects on the Earth are continuously happening ever since the start of Industrialization.
What is global warming caused by?
Global warming is caused by greenhouse gases, like carbon dioxide, methane, water vapor and nitrous oxide. Many of these gasses are overproduced in the atmosphere due to human activities, increasing greenhouse gas levels. These greenhouse gases absorb infrared radiation from the sun which is called the Greenhouse Effect. The worst atmospheric greenhouse gas is water vapor, but doesn't stay very long as other gasses. Carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere mainly from coal powered factories, and gas powered cars. Methane comes from decomposition, mainly large amounts from the Wetlands. Other sources are decomposition from landfills and decomposition in tundras under the ice and snow that are released when the ice and snow melts. Water vapor is from the evaporation of water sources. Nitrous oxide is a part of the nitrogen cycle through which nitrate converts into nitrous oxide gas, this is called denitrification. Many of these gases are natural occurrences in the world, but we have been tampering with them.
